Here are a few pictures of the garfield survey from 3 different students:
Here is a picture of the results I got from the survey.
I was able to meet with my professor yesterday and she gave me some valuable information!
She told me not to compare the survey from February to March. I should go back and re-read the article that goes with the survey and check for the subsets that go together. This way I will be able to gather more information from the survey.
I hope to get to analyze this data further this afternoon, or this weekend. More coming soon!
I got the garfield survey from:
McKenna, M. C., Kear,
D. J. (1990). Measuring attitude toward reading: A new tool for teachers.
The Reading Teacher,
43 (9), 626-639.
Your Garfield survey results look really good! Hannah reminds me of a previous student I had who was eager to please the teacher. I am glad her results were more accurate this time. Not to give you more work, but I was thinking maybe you could interview a couple of your students whose attitudes improved. By questioning these students, you could figure out more specifically as to why and how these students' attitudes improved. I am sure you have plenty of data and this was just a thought!
ReplyDeleteYou're right- if they weren't in the mood, I'm sure they just shut down and didn't give their best effort. But I am sure you as a teacher can make the judgement call. I know when we met at Starbucks you guys were talking about just having a conversation with the one boy you were most concerned with just to see if he was just in rare form. :) Everything is coming along nicely!!!
