I swear, every student in my room was doing what they were supposed to be doing during Daily Five! Groups were productive, and it was quiet in the room. A first grade teacher's dream!
Here are pictures of my typed up field notes. I love the 2 column set up. It really works for me. It tells me what I see and what I think about it. I hope to start using the post it note method on some of my field notes this weekend!
Also, here are a few photos of the kids working today!

Congratulations! What an exciting day for you and your students. I am still trying to keep my students on task. Ha ha! Your field notes are amazing! I am still trying to figure out how to take field notes while my students are working and keeping them on task.
ReplyDeleteYou are RIGHT!!! It is any first grade teacher's dream. I think about it all the time, haha. I am with Sarah- it is difficult for me to keep my kids on task still. I have the Daily 5 book and really need to find time to read it. I have read parts and implemented things here and there but I can't imagine how well it would work if I implemented it in it's entirety. Your study is very interesting to me!!!
ReplyDeleteDaily 5 makes my life SO much easier and the kids are loving it. Most of my data is turning out this way. Sarah- I really suggest you try it out!
ReplyDeleteSarah- since my students are in small groups I only have 6 sitting in front of me that I have to keep on task. An assistant has 6 with her and then 12 are out at Daily 5. Since I am taking notes on Wednesday the kids have already read the book 3 times so they pretty much read independently. Then I have them respond in thier journals. I give directions as soon as they come to the table, so there is usually minimum interruptions. This way I sit at the table and can write about what I am seeing the whole time.
